Scaling Down

Scaling down is harder than one would think. When you have been buying stuff for years it doesn’t occur to you that some day you might want to move to a smaller house with less up-keep. Now you have to find places for all that stuff or try to sell or give it away.

Gabriel Orozco’s Found Objects

We moved from a large house in a rural area to a smaller house in town. I think pictures tell the story better, since I am an artist I like visuals. I am posting pictures of paintings by famous artists to show you what I mean. The first one is a big country house, much like the one I left.

Grandma Moses, Thunder Storm, oil painting

The funny thing is we have been having so much rain this year. Every day either it’s raining or the lakes and rivers are rising and flooding the roads.

Hokusai, The Great Wave

OK. The second picture is a painting for more of a neighborhood. This is the kind of place I moved to. Everything is close and convenient. However it’s not such a good thing to be so close to my neighbor that when I look out my bedroom window I can see their entire backyard with a nice big swimming pool that they have not used once since I lived here. One day they had two little girls visit in the pool all day, screaming the whole time. I am thankful they don’t live there and so far have only visited once.

Jacob Lawrence

I found this really cool painting of a swimming pool that I thought you’d like to see so I’m sharing it.

Driving in the 21st Century

I am a 20th century girl. I remember when there were no freeways or roundabouts. To take a roundabout route used to mean to take a (usually longer) different way to get to a destination. Today it means to go round and round in a circle until you finally figure out what direction you want to go before you jump off. It’s like a merry go round in which the horses are all loose and you are hoping they too would like not to have a collision. Below are some tips on how not to crash in a roundabout. Also a painting I thought you might like.

The Journey Begins

I don’t know where to begin  because I am so old that if I start at the beginning I’m afraid I’ll never get to the present.  Maybe that’s a good thing.  I will begin with a trip I took in 2016.  Andy and I took a road trip down to Florida to visit family.  On the way we made pit stops at some cool places.   We took pictures of course.

The quote below came with the theme I picked for this free blog site and it seems appropriate so I’m keeping it.  Also I’m not sure how to get rid of it.

Remember this was three years ago and we are supposed to be enjoying our “golden years.”  I will post pictures of us enjoying ourselves just to prove it.

That’s Andy in the yellow shirt. He looks really happy. I am happy too, in large part because I am drinking what I think is a mimosa but not totally sure about that. I am sure it had alcohol in it.
